As I write this, the team is cleaning up a ransomware event for a client. The ransom started at 5 bitcoin ($12,760 as of today) and we negotiated down to 3 BTC. The downtime for the client cost much more since it is the end of the month, quarter, and time for payroll. I estimate the total cost to be around $25,000. Not petty cash for most companies.

Please make sure your machines are patched, that you run current versions of software, and have the licensed versions of anti-virus/malware software. Verify your backups are in place and that they work.

If you need help, I can recommend a few IT companies to help. Rocker advises and does not perform this sort of work.

Good luck!
